Fly Fishing And Camping

Fly Fishing And Camping

Our family of 4 tries to spend as much time outdoors as physically possible in our off time. We go camping a lot; probably once a month if we can pull it off. We love to hike and be in nature, and occasionally bird-watch, but our main source of fun is fly fishing.

It’s something that the entire family enjoys. That includes me, my wife, my daughter and my son. It’s neat that the girls are as involved as they are. It’s a truly awesome family bonding experience for all of us.

When the kids were younger, they would just use our fishing rods. Things were a bit simpler back then. Now that they were getting further into their teen years, they were needing their own gear. They’d been into it for a long time, and I didn’t see that ending anytime soon, so I figured it would be a good investment.

The next obstacle that we needed to tackle was figuring out how to transport this new equipment. When there are only 2 fishing rods, and kids aren’t quite grown up, it’s quite a bit easier to finagle things inside the vehicle. Definitely not the case with nearly 2 full-grown teens and 4 fishing rods. The bickering during the trip would be endless.

I had asked around at our last campsite when I saw some fellow fly fishing enthusiasts. They recommended the kind that they had: A Riversmith River Quiver Rod Carrier that they purchased from Trouts Fly Fishing. They even took the time to show it to us. We learned how it was attached and what the inside looked like. They were really happy with theirs.

They had the 2 rod carrier, and obviously, we needed something to carry all 4 of our rods. We sure got lucky, because they had one for carrying 4 as well. It was a no-brainer. If it let us continue our family camping trips smoothly, we were going to get it.

We’ve taken it on a handful of trips, and I still have zero complaints about it. We’ve even run into the people who originally recommended it, and have thanked them endlessly. I’m really glad we asked those specific people. It was definitely a game-changer.

I feel that often when something presents a challenge, people just don’t want to be bothered, and I’m glad that we didn’t take that attitude about this. It keeps us continuing our fun trips as a family, which with some is unheard of with teens. We are really lucky, and try to remember that often.
