How to index your site on Google? How to ask Google to index your site quickly? We will also talk about tips to make it easier for Google to index your site.

First of all, it is very important to understand how the Google search engine works, there are 3 main steps:

  • The crawl: i.e. the analysis of the pages
  • Indexing: once analyzed, Google indexes the pages in its search engine, they become visible to the Internet user
  • Ranking: On the basis of user requests, Google will propose a ranking of pages that it considers to be of good quality and relevant.

How to know if your website is indexed?

This is the first step, before knowing how to index your site on Google, you must already check if it is not already indexed. Very often, it is already the case, your website is probably already indexed. When you create a website, you must first block Google’s indexing. You don’t want Google to index your website while it is still under construction. It is therefore a good idea to block Google via the robots.txt file.

  • Request indexing from Google

This is the simplest and fastest technique. How to index your site on Google? You just have to ask Google to index your site, quite simply. To do this, you must first install Google Search Console, which takes 5 minutes. This tool offered free by Google allows us to follow the good indexation of the pages of its site.

To request indexing from Google, go to “URL Inspection” and enter your domain name. Normally, you will see a grey message telling you that the URL in question has not been indexed by Google. Then click on the “REQUEST INDEXATION” button.

  • Work on internal linking

Internal linking is the set of internal links on a website. It is one of the most important criteria in natural referencing. Why is it important? Simply because Google uses links to navigate from page to page. Like any Internet user, he will click on the links to visit the destination page and so on.

If there are not many internal links on your website, you will limit Google’s navigation. Some pages may be forgotten and never indexed.

You should therefore add links to other pages on your website. This will make it easier for Google to navigate. To index your site well on Google :

  • Each page should have at least 3 internal links
  • Each page should have at least 3 internal links
  • The anchor of the links varies as much as possible
  • The most important pages receive the most internal links
  • Working on your netlinking

Netlinking is the acquisition of backlinks, these links that come from other websites. Unlike internal linking, these links are external to the website. However, like internal links, Google uses them to navigate from page to page. It is therefore more interesting to try to put links from sites that are already indexed by Google.

Netlinking is good for facilitating and accelerating Google’s indexing because Google will discover your site from one it already knows. It is a recommendation, and that is good for your visibility on the search engine.

  • Improving loading speed

Google works like a web user. If a page takes too long to load, it may skip it. You have to understand that Google has a certain amount of time allocated to each website. This is called the “crawl budget”. If a page is difficult to reach, Google will take longer and use up the time allocated to visit the site before visiting all the pages.

It is therefore necessary to facilitate Google’s navigation, as we have seen above with the internal mesh, but this is also true for the site’s tree structure and loading speed. To improve the loading time and index your site well on Google, you must :

  • Optimize the images
  • Use a cache plugin like Wp rocket
  • Delete unused resources in the page (the Asset Clean Up plugin does the job well)

In some cases, it is possible to create AMP pages on the mobile version

  • Add new content regularly

Google visits your website irregularly. Sometimes a few hours, sometimes a few weeks. If you want to improve the indexing of your pages, you have to get the robots used to visiting your website. The solution: publish new content regularly on the same day at the same time.

If Google knows that you publish a new blog post every Wednesday at 9am, it will come to see this content every Wednesday at 9am. Your content will therefore be indexed much more quickly.
